100% Literacy by 2030

Every Tasmanian has a choice, a voice, is seen and supported, regardless of their lived past or perceived future. With 100% literacy, that choice and voice become a reality.
When given access to the right tools, we are all free and able to reach any opportunity. Unfortunately, right now only half of Tasmanians are functionally literate. In the justice system, it plummets to one in five, limiting our community’s participation in, and contribution to, a strong social and economic future.

Connect42 champions and defines 100% Literacy as 100% of our people reading, writing and communicating at 100% of their potential with equal opportunities and access for all Tasmanians.

Connect42 is a founding partner and co-author of the Road Map to a Literate Tasmania. You can support this critically important work by being part of our Just Us or Just42 donor community. Find out more about how to be a 100% literacy champion at this link.

#100%Literacy was borne out of the Communicating the Heart of Literacy symposium hosted by Connect42 in November 2018. We invite you to read the Symposium Report here. Connecting the Heart of Literacy symposium was held in 2019. In August 2020, the Tasmanian 100% Literacy Alliance also formed from this collaborative work.

#100%Literacy is a collective voice bringing all together to advocate for improved literacy outcomes for Tasmanians through informed, evidence-based practices and policy development.
